History of LFCTV: the dedicated official channel of the English football club Liverpool F.C

The city of Liverpool is famous not only for its architectural landmarks but also for its football club, Liverpool FC. The club is known throughout the world and is a major part of the city’s identity. To cover the latest news and events, the official channel LFCTV (Liverpool F.C. TV) was launched. Today, we’ll take a closer look at the channel. Read more about it on the liverpool-future.com website.

History of the special channel

The history of LFCTV began after Setanta Sports entered the UK sports market, which led to the creation of dedicated channels for football clubs. LFCTV launched in 2007, broadcasting seven days a week from 10:00 am to 1:30 am, and was available for free on Sky.

In 2009, LFCTV became the first club channel to broadcast a live World Cup qualifier. A year later, the channel moved its studios, which caused a temporary halt to live broadcasting and a reduction in broadcast hours to 12 hours a day. In 2010, LFCTV resumed live broadcasts from a new studio with views of the Royal Liver Building and the Church of Our Lady and St Nicholas.

In 2011, the channel started broadcasting a live pre-match show from Anfield before every home game, which came from an external studio.

In 2012, LFCTV broadcast a live programme from outside Wembley Stadium from early in the morning until the kick-off of the FA Cup and Football League Cup finals.

After the game, a live analysis show was broadcast with exclusive coverage and interviews from the Liverpool dressing room.

In the 2012–13 season, the channel broadcast full match commentary for every home game. This included live photos of the crowd inside the stadium as well as the commentary team.

In 2014, LFCTV launched in HD on Sky channel 455 and became a premium channel.

About Liverpool FC

The official channel of the English football club, LFCTV, was launched relatively recently in 2007, but the club itself was founded much earlier, in 1892. John Houlding founded Liverpool FC to have a new team play at his stadium. Before that, the Everton football team had played there. The issue arose when Houlding increased the rent for the football club by two and a half times. The Everton members refused to cooperate on those terms and found another ground to play on. John Houlding was left alone with his stadium and empty stands, so he decided to create a new football club in Liverpool.

William Barclay and John McKenna became co-owners of the club. In May 1892, they formed the initial squad for the first team, which was mainly composed of Scottish footballers. In September 1892, the new football club played its first match.

Liverpool FC developed and grew, ultimately achieving the success it enjoys today.

That’s the story of the LFCTV channel and the club. We hope you found our article insightful.
